SWEETPEA

Female | 2 years old | 46 pounds | Medium-high energy | Needs slow intros to dogs | Hasn’t met kids or cats | From Manitoba | Fostered in Stouffville | Affectionate & playful

Sweet with a side of spicy, SWEETPEA over here has a beautifully refreshing personality. One minute she’ll be asking for belly rubs, and the next she’ll be busy with the zoomies… and the next she’ll turn into a sleepyhead. It’s all about the contrast with this one.

When off leash, SWEETPEA is all play, play, play. She enjoys running to her heart’s content and play-wrestling with other scruffs. It’s her version of heaven. Being on a leash and meeting dogs, however, is not her idea of a good time. It typically involves a combo of this usually sweet as honey scruff being vocal and jumping. Continuing to build her confidence on a leash will be key, as is advocating for her and ensuring intros to other dogs are slow and steady.

If there’s one thing we should share about this gal, it’s her love for her humans. You already know she’s an affectionate cuddle monster, but just wait and see! SWEETPEA keeps things interesting, though, and in contrast, shows that she’s shy meeting new people at first, men in particular. Giving her a few extra minutes to adjust in her own sweet time will work wonders.

What her foster family would like to humble-brag about is not only her knowledge of basic commands but also her crate training. This girl is great at settling and is happy to entertain herself and make use of her crate overnight and when her foster family is at work.

In Greek mythology, sweetpeas symbolized eternal life. Nowadays, in the language of flowers, they symbolize lasting friendship. We have no doubt you’ll become BFFs with this girl in no time at all, but first, you have to apply to adopt!

WILLOW

Female | 3.5 months old | 9 pounds & growing | Puppy energy | Brief interactions with dogs | Hasn’t met kids or cats | Fostered in Richmond Hill | A curious & quick learner

WILLOW. In European folklore, people believed knocking on the trunk of a willow tree would bring good luck, hence the phrase “knock on wood.” We’re here to share that WILLOW, a newly adoptable pup, might just be your very own good luck charm. Well, if you invite her into your life, of course.

Love, wonder, and whimsy tied together, WILLOW also happens to be brave in her boldness. Having adapted quickly to a new home environment, her hesitancy towards the outdoors quickly vanished, being replaced with a feeling of excitement for checking out new places and spaces. She’s driven, this one, and, eager to please her humans, she eagerly works through training. Being food-motivated as she is, treats are a big bonus for her after a job well done.

The key to her heart is belly rubs, and her puppy energy will leave you breathless. Long story short, WILLOW is a driven young scruff who, at the end of the day, is looking for an active family that is keen to bring a loyal companion into their home. WILLOW enjoys going for both walks and hikes, and, as active as she is, it’s also important for her to have a structured lifestyle in which she also practices crate training and regular downtime. This pup prefers interacting with smaller dogs and shows a more reserved side with larger dogs. She’s also yet to meet cats and kids, and interactions will need to be supervised.

They say that fortune favours the brave. Are you bold and brave enough to bring an energetic pup into your life? There’s house training and leash training. There’s structure and boundaries. And gosh, there’s a whole lot of work. On the other side of the coin, it’s adventure and companionship. It’s belly rubs and affection.

What do you say, ready to meet your good luck charm? You’d better knock on wood… and apply to adopt!

NORMA

Female | ~4 months old | 13 pounds & growing! | Puppy energy | Friendly with kids | Good second dog | Hasn’t met cats | Fostered in Toronto | Smart, spunky & playful

Are you ready to meet the love of your life? Her name is NORMA and she’s a 3-month-old pup that’s currently being looked after in Toronto. She’s got that playful puppy energy you know and love but can still go from zoomies and play wrestling to snuggling in an instant. So, yes, she’s a really nice mix of playful and calm, spunky and gentle.

A total pleasure to have around the home, NORMA is perhaps best described as a super smart girl who knows how to be respectful of both people and dogs. Currently living with another scruff in the home, NORMA would likely enjoy having another furry pal in the home going forward. She’s curious in nature, which has her noticing other dogs while out and about, though that said, she’s not one to approach them just yet. With time, patience, and of course training, NORMA will no doubt build up that confidence of hers.

Talking about building confidence, this pup does best with slow introductions. NORMA can be initially unsure of meeting new people but quickly warms up if the person is sitting on the floor and invites her into their lap (aka her favourite place to be). Since being in her foster’s care, NORMA has become more confident and has been getting used to being in a home environment, walking outside with cars, dogs, and people, which was initially difficult for her. Slow, measured introductions with positive reinforcement has been helpful. Taking a measured approach to continue bolstering her confidence is key! She will love having you advocate for her in this way, especially at the park where she can play fetch, sniff around and explore – also a great way for her to expend that playful puppy energy!

While still young, NORMA responds well to corrections and is easily directed by her humans. Training will absolutely still be in her future, and you should know that she can be vocal when playing or when wanting to alert her humans of something. With that in mind, she might do best in a home other than an apartment (i.e., doesn’t share a wall with a neighbour), at least for now while she continues to learn.

So. Have you fallen in love yet?! Apply to adopt!

NUTMEG

Female | 3 months old | 8 pounds & growing | Puppy energy | Likely a good second dog | Limited exposure to children | Hasn’t met cats | Fostered in Toronto | Sweet, sassy, and a little shy

Ah, NUTMEG. Warm with a hint of sassy spice, there’s not even one ounce of bitterness in this 3-month-old pup. At just over 8 pounds and growing, NUTMEG might be small (for now!), but her love for people and playtime sure is potent.

Shy at first, yet curious in nature, NUTMEG is a delightful blend of contrasting qualities. Exploring new environments brings her joy, and while she’s curious about those who are young and those who are young at heart, make sure to give her some time to warm up to new human friends. As a pup who continues to learn, NUTMEG can be nippy, which is something to keep in mind if and when she interacts with kiddos. She’s also learning all about leash training and that not everything she spots while out on walks is hers to eat!

What makes us smile is NUTMEG’s playful personality coupled with the occasional spurt of rambunctious energy. What warms our hearts is her love for a good cuddle. We’ll be the first to tell you that she’s got a subtle undercurrent of sweetness, this one :) Her excitement around mealtimes is particularly endearing.

Being committed to her training and enforcing boundaries will help this pup become her most confident self. As it stands, NUTMEG has become more accustomed to loud city noises, which is great progress. Still working on those chewing tendencies of hers, it’s important to ensure she gets the physical and mental stimulation she requires. Otherwise, she might just go for your shoes. Or your furniture. On the whole, we think NUTMEG could benefit from having another dog who can handle her playful energy, and show her the ropes in her new home.

Now, NUTMEG might not frequent culinary circles, but it just so happens that she’s hoping to make a splash in the adoption scene. Apply today!

Nutmeg will be a special guest at our adoption event on Sunday, May 4th in Hamilton! Come meet her between 11am and 1pm at Pet Valu (1550 Upper James St.) and see if she might be the right scruff for you! Please note that we will not be processing adoption applications for her until after the event.

WENDELL - REVIEWING APPS

Male | 3 months old | 11 pounds & growing! | Puppy energy | Hasn’t met kids, cats, or dogs | Fostered in Toronto | A real sweetie pie

His name might mean “wanderer,” but the only place this pup wants to wander is on a route home to you! This is WENDELL. A typical puppy, WENDELL likes to move and groove to channel that fun puppy energy of his. On a typical day, you can find him either out for a walk, playing fetch, or entertaining himself with his toys. While he can be rambunctious inside, he’s also just a pup who wants to hang out with you and will happily accept all cuddles and pats he can.

As you might have guessed, WENDELL is a friendly scruff. He enjoys making new human friends and, with time, is becoming more comfortable meeting males after showing some nervousness at first. He prefers meeting new people one at a time versus meeting multiple people all at once. Slow and steady! You already know he’s as sweet as can be. That said, keep in mind he continues to learn and can nip, so meeting older kids for now would be best.

Yet to interact with dogs, WENDELL shows an initial curiosity towards them when catching sight of them while out for a walk. Out on these walks, you’d best believe he’s been busy getting used to all the city sounds that Toronto has to offer! What else is he busy getting used to? House training, of course, and learning that not all things are made for chewing. Keep an eye out! As with all pups, patience is a must, which will absolutely come in handy while furthering his training.

Apply to adopt!

Wendell will be a special guest at our adoption event on Sunday, May 4th in Hamilton! Come meet him between 11am and 2pm at Pet Valu (1550 Upper James St.) and see if he might be the right scruff for you! Please note that we will not be processing adoption applications for him until after the event.

POPPY

Female | 6 years old | 38 pounds | Medium energy | Limited exposure to cats | Hasn’t met kids | Dog selective | Sweet and affectionate with trusted humans | Best in an adult-only home | From Dominican Republic | Fostered in Bracebridge

🎵 GUESS WHO’S BACK? BACK AGAIN. POPPY’S BACK, TELL A FRIEND! 🎵

POPPY is a 6-year-old sight hound mix with the most soulful eyes and a heart full of love. Originally rescued from the Dominican Republic, POPPY has been living in Canada since 2019 and has made great strides on her journey from scared stray to sweet companion.

Indoors, POPPY is the picture of comfort and calm. She loves napping in sunny spots, giving excited greetings when you come home, and charming her humans into endless belly rubs and butt scratches. She’s quiet, well-mannered, and happiest when she’s close to her people.

Outside, POPPY is learning to feel safe. She can be anxious and alert to unfamiliar sounds or movements, but she’s an incredible leash-walker, sticking close to your side and following your lead with gentle guidance. On trail walks with a long line, POPPY comes alive—these outings give her a sense of freedom AND confidence. One of her favorite outdoor activities? Digging! POPPY loves to dig, so a family that can give her opportunities to indulge this natural behavior would be a big bonus.

In addition to her sweet personality, POPPY is incredibly agile and athletic. With the right guidance, she has the potential to be an amazing agility partner. Her intelligence and athleticism could really shine in structured, engaging activities like agility training or scent work.

POPPY thrives with calm structure and strong, confident leadership. She needs someone who understands that building trust takes time, patience and hard work. With dogs, POPPY can be selective; while she’s had dog friends in the past, slow, thoughtful introductions and ongoing supervision are essential. With familiar dog pals, POPPY enjoys playful interactions—but her play style can be quite vocal and pushy, which might be misinterpreted to the untrained eye. A knowledgeable handler will be able to recognize her intent and set clear boundaries when needed. She is also accustomed to using training tools in situations where she could become reactive, helping her and her human feel secure and supported.

POPPY is a quiet, loving companion who will thrive in a calm, adult-only home where she feels safe. If you’re someone who appreciates a deep connection and has the patience to help a gentle dog blossom, POPPY just might be your perfect match!

LOBA - APP IN PROCESS

Female | 4.5 years old | 41 pounds | Low energy | Has met dogs | Hasn’t met cats or kids | From Mexico | Fostered in Toronto | Loves the outdoors | A sweet, independent gal

Lo and behold, we have a new adoptable! Everyone, meet LOBA. Perhaps best described as easygoing, it’s LOBA’s calm demeanor that makes her a comforting presence at home. We’re happy to share that this laid-back nature of hers is also what makes her a good companion to other dogs. So, for those who already have a scruff of their own and are looking to add one more to the mix, well, you’re in the right place! Keep in mind she can be more hesitant around larger dogs, but warms up to them with time.

LOBA manages her social battery by making time for both receiving attention from her people and time to show off her independent self. Since she’s been in her foster’s care, she’s opened up significantly and now enjoys spending more and more time outside of her crate. Meeting new people inside and outside is a frequent occurrence, and this gal gives each and every one of them a sniff and tail wag hello. She’s polite like that! One thing to note is that if she’s to interact with kids, dog-savvy kids would be best to ensure that they have an understanding of when LOBA may like to have some alone time. Learning and reading her body language is key!

Comfortable in her own spaces, such as her crate and her foster’s home, LOBA can sometimes be hesitant to leave her safety bubble. She’s building up that confidence of hers at a pace that works for her, and with each new experience, you’ll be able to watch her grow. When she is out and about exploring on walks, you’ll quickly notice her love for not only being outside but also her love for smelling ALL the things. Inside, her preferred activities include lounging and napping. You’ll be pleased to know that she is in fact house trained as well!

All in all, LOBA here is likely one of the chillest dogs you could meet. She’s the type of scruff who would thrive in a quiet, calm environment, and if that’s something you’re able to offer her, we’d love for you to apply for adoption!

Loba will be a special guest at our adoption event on Sunday, May 4th in Hamilton! Come meet her between 11am and 2pm at Pet Valu (1550 Upper James St.) and see if she might be the right scruff for you! Please note that we will not be processing adoption applications for her until after the event.

NECTAR - APP IN PROCESS

Female | 3 months old | 11 pounds | Puppy energy | Hasn’t met kids, dogs or cats | Fostered in Toronto | Affectionate & loves a cuddle | Busy learning lots

As the legend goes, NECTAR was the drink of the Greek and Roman gods. With its magical powers, we thought we should introduce you to an equally divine and joyful pup of the same name. Meet NECTAR.

Life with a puppy can bring a welcome kind of chaos. At any given time there’s infectious energy with the occasional zoomies and cuddles that always deserve an ovation. That more or less sums up life with NECTAR, but of course, there’s always more. More to look forward to and more to work on!

NECTAR’s house training has been going well, with no accidents in the last few days, and she’s working hard on leash training. You may notice some zig zags! She also continues to get more comfortable using her crate, being somewhat vocal at night, but settling quickly either way. What will set NECTAR up for success is a structured routine with time to train, play, and rest all built in. It takes time, energy, and a good dose of patience to take care of any dog, NECTAR included!

This pup is affectionate in nature and loves a good cuddle. She can also be nervous at first when meeting new people. With that in mind, slow intros work best for her. While she has yet to meet children, she can be nippy and interactions are to be monitored. Some of NECTAR’s preferred activities, other than snuggles, include tug of war and playing with her chew toys. She also enjoys solving puzzles, preferably with a treat on the line.

PUPPIES

4 female & 2 male | Born January 15, 2025 | Puppy energy | Have all met kids, dogs & cats | From Northern Manitoba | Fostered in Winnipeg | Likely arriving to Toronto mid-May | All looking for adopters

*Adoptions Pending for CeCe, Peaches and Trixie*

Six cute puppies, sitting in a tree, P-L-A-Y-I-N-G. We kid :) These sweet-as-can-be pups aren’t sitting in a tree, but they are being their regular rascal selves, sitting, or likely rather playing, in their current Winnipeg foster homes.

TRIXIE (female), OSCAR (male), LULU (female), CECE (female), GUS (male), and PEACHES (female) are all looking for adopters to bring them directly into their care, likely mid-May. Post-arrival, each adopter will have a trial period with their pup. They’ll be a little over 16 weeks old when they arrive. So. Excited for all the puppy energy?! Same, cross my heart!

These pups are likely to grow into large dogs. They might look small now, but that won’t last long! We recommend looking up northern breeds for more insights; these pups in particular are likely a mix of shepherd, lab, and husky. What else can you do to prepare? Get a head start by looking into potential obedience classes. We double-dog dare you!

Each of these pups has had good exposure to kids, dogs, and cats and is working on crate and house training in particular. What will be new to them is practicing walking on a leash and experiencing all the new sights, sounds, and smells that moving into a different environment offers.

Eeny, meeny, miny, moe… If you are open to any puppy, please state that in your application.

P.S. You snooze, you lose! Send in your application today.

BOO - APP IN PROCESS

Female | 4 months old | 17 pounds & growing | Medium-high energy | Enjoys meeting kids of all ages | Good second dog | Hasn’t met cats | From Manitoba | Fostered in Markham | Curious and playful

BOO! We didn’t mean to scare you stiff, but the cat is officially out of the bag. We’ve got another adoptable in SOS care! Halloween might still be 6 months away, but, of course, BOO over here is aiming to secure a forever home much sooner than that.

Now, let’s spill the guts on all things BOO. At four months old, this scruff is a lot of things: curious, a fast learner, and, in her foster’s words, the “best puppy ever.” That’s high praise coming from a fam that, through fostering, knows just how much of a commitment it is to look after a pup :) BOO is the kind of scruff that enjoys being active throughout the day and is happy to chill if and when you’d like to. She can easily entertain herself with her fav toys. Activities like hanging out at the park playing fetch, playing with dog pals, and giving puppy kisses all fill up her day nicely. Would she thrive in an active household? Absolutely.

BOO spends much of her time working on learning new skills with her foster fam. For instance, she’s learning how to live with another dog in the home and lately, their relationship has progressed with BOO starting to learn how to read the other dog’s cues. BOO is also working on loose-leash walking and place training. She’s also fairly food-motivated, this one, so keep that trick up your sleeve, since ongoing training is a must!

BOO’s curious nature means she generally enjoys meeting new people… especially when they give her pats and their general attention. It’s the best. Sure, she can be timid at first meeting dogs bigger than her, but she’s no scaredy-cat and quickly opens up. Plus, more friends equates to more opportunities to play, something she’s always down for!

So, has BOO officially cast a spell on you? Sounds like it’s time to adopt. Apply today.

TUBA

Male | 5 years old | 88 pounds | Low energy | Lives with a dog | Hasn’t met cats | No kids please | From Hamilton | Fostered in Toronto | Sweet with goofball tendencies | Loves stuffies & snuggles

It’s time to face the music. Meet TUBA. With a name like that, you’d best believe he’s got the personality to match! Fast to make friends, this scruff is perhaps best described as a gentle giant. He might be big (and definitely strong!), but he’s also the first to lean in for pets, roll over for a belly rub (he LOVES a snuggle), and essentially become your BFF and all that jazz.

So, he’s confident, smart, a little playful, and, like we said, strong. TUBA does his best work using training tools on walks. In his foster’s opinion, it’s made a world of difference, and he now walks in a relaxed manner by his human. He’s a smart pooch and is currently working on place. He’s already got sit, down, and wait down pat! Of course, while you might want to play it by ear, we recommend finding a balanced training program to learn right alongside TUBA. A helpful hint in the meantime: TUBA responds well to his humans, especially when food is on the line!

Ideally, TUBA would find a home with experience taking care of larger dogs. A home that’s also a moderately quiet area would also be great as TUBA continues progressing with training. Know that while he’s improving in this area, TUBA can be vocal in his crate when left alone, though. We do love that he’s become more comfortable with relaxing in it when he decides to.

Typically indifferent to other dogs, this scruff can show some interest in them now and then. Case in point: TUBA and his foster’s resident dog have become BFFs. Their similar temperaments, interest in play, and ability to respect each other’s boundaries have all strengthened their friendship. TUBA’s happy-go-lucky personality shines through in his interactions with people—he truly enjoys making new friends! That said, he can take a minute to warm up to new faces and really appreciates it when people respect his boundaries as he gets comfortable. With all that in mind, this scruff has also shown some prey drive, in particular when animals dart across his line of vision. So? Interactions with cats will need to be supervised.

Keen to adopt TUBA? That’s music to our ears! Apply today.

NAIROBI - APP IN PROGRESS

Female | 3.5 years old | 37 pounds | Low-medium energy | Hasn’t met kids or cats | Positive interactions with dogs | From Mexico | Fostered in Toronto | Goofy and gaining confidence | Affectionate

Meet NAIROBI. A low-key yet social gal pal who enjoys spending time with her humans and dogs alike. Sure, she’s a little on the hesitant side at first, but she’s new here, and who can blame her?! Giving her time and space to warm up, as well as advocating for her, will help her gain confidence in you as her handler and herself as she learns to embrace new friends.

With her calm approach to life, NAIROBI only occasionally gets the zoomies. More often than not, she likes to fill her days with time to lounge by the window and time to receive affection. Belly rubs, please! Of course, NAIROBI is pleased to attend a few walks throughout the day, typically a long walk and a couple of shorter walks to stretch her legs and get her activity in.

As her foster knows, access to quieter areas nearby is key if NAIROBI is to be living downtown. She’s working on developing her confidence in the city and is slowly but surely getting comfortable in everyday scenarios like using the elevator and passing other dogs and people. Also, this gal does like her space, so living as a solo dog could work well for her. Otherwise, having another dog with a similar energy level in the home could help her feel more confident in her surroundings.

Think you’re the one for NAIROBI? Apply to adopt.

NANDO - PENDING ADOPTION

Male | 10 years old | 22 pounds | Low energy | Has previously met dogs | Good solo dog | Has met older kids | Hasn’t met cats | From Mexico | Curious & sweet

He’s legendary. He’s got heart. He’s NANDO. Bringing the heat, or, rather, the affection when you need it most, NANDO is as loyal as they come. Some even consider him a Velcro dog :) You’ll soon find that all this scruff wants is to be with his people, which, in our books, is the best kind of soul-soothing comfort out there. Feel free to give him ALL the tummy rubs.

NANDO is big on Netflix and napping, but, while he may be a senior, he’s got a sweet puppy-like energy to him with some goofball tendencies. Some of his fav pastimes include using his nose to sniff all the smells and playing hide and seek during a midday burst of energy. Then, of course, it’s back to his nap schedule.

Being a little shy in new situations, it’s your confident, calm guidance that will have him catching on quickly to what he needs to learn in your care! While he warms up to people fairly quickly giving kisses right off the bat, it can take him more time to get comfortable with males. With you advocating for him, he’ll quickly learn to trust you’re setting him up for success. He’s likely to do well in a calm, quiet home where his people are home more often than not.

Just like the first bite of that perfectly grilled peri-peri chicken, this scruff will add a burst of joy to your everyday life. Apply to adopt NANDO today. It’s a wing-wing situation after all!

VANNA

Female | 2.5 years old | 33 lbs | Medium energy | Dog selective | Good with dog-savvy cats | Best with 16+ | From Mexico | Fostered in Sharon, ON | Looking for an adopter

Meet VANNA! With soulful eyes, this sweet, sensitive girl is currently living with a trainer, and making great progress in building confidence. She thrives with structure, routine, and clear guidance, and she’s looking for an experienced adopter to continue working with her.

VANNA is smart and eager to learn. She enjoys structured leash walks, hand-feeding, obedience training, and decompression time. She also loves fetch, hiking, and hanging out with her humans! She is crate-trained and fine being left alone for a workday with proper exercise.

While neutral around most dogs, Vanna can be reactive toward excitable or extra pushy dogs. A calm, confident dog may help her open up, but she should avoid on-leash greetings with unfamiliar dogs in the meantime. She also has a strong prey drive, but recently interacted with a few dog-savvy cats and did really well!

VANNA is still nervous with new people and has territorial tendencies in the home. She needs slow introductions and an adopter willing to advocate for her and follow her training plan. Due to this, she would do best in an adult-only home (16+).

VANNA’s trainer is also open to informal meet & greets, complete with valuable tips on what works for her. She needs a patient and committed person to help her continue building confidence and trust. If you're looking for a loyal, intelligent companion and are willing to continue her training, VANNA is ready to meet you!

KORI - APP IN PROCESS

Female | 2 years old | 45 Pounds | Medium Energy | Good Exposure with other dogs | Dog savvy cats or no cats, please! | No kids | From Mexico | Living in Sharon, Ontario | Hypoallergenic Diet (suspected food allergy) | Affectionate, playful and smart

Kori is a spunky, intelligent, and fun natured gal looking for her family. Since arriving in October, Kori has blossomed into a playful, affectionate companion. She’s eager to please, making her an excellent fit for an adopter who can continue her growth. She's a mixed breed, is 2 years old & weighs 45lbs.

Personality: Kori is independent and smart, with a fun-loving spirit. She loves her daily walks, playtime with tug toys, and bonding with her humans. While she was initially shy, she’s become more confident with bonded people, and her affectionate nature shines through. She’s an eager learner and loves challenges. Kori can be both cautious and bousterious with new people but is learning to engage in a calm, respectful manner.

Ideal Day: Kori thrives on a structured routine. A walk in the morning, followed by play + skill learning exercises, makes her a happy girl ready for some relaxation. She’s perfectly content to chill in her crate or relax while you’re busy but loves to be involved with you when you’re free. A few play sessions and enrichment activities keep her mentally engaged and content for fun rewards.

Other Pets: Kori enjoys the company of other dogs, especially playful and confident ones. She loves to play chase and wrestle, but she respects boundaries well. Kori has a strong prey drive and will chase small animals, so her ideal home would have a dog-savvy cat or no cats at all. She’s also very responsive on walks, redirecting well when needed.

Skills: With guidance Kori is good with housetraining & crate-training, and walks well on leash. She knows basic commands and is learning more each day. She’s still a bit nervous around strangers but improves with positive interactions & instructions that will be handed down by her handler. Kori would thrive with continued  learning and structure in her forever home.

Ideal Home: Kori would do best in a quieter, adult-only home with an experienced adopter. A family with another playful dog would be ideal. If you’re ready for a fun, intelligent companion, Kori could be the one!

Fun Fact: Kori is always game for a good tug-of-war session or a fun game of chase!

She is currently in Sharon, ON and is available for informal meet & greets with her handler to see if it's a good fit. Email adoption@saveourscruff.org to set that up, but tell us a little about yourself and why she's a match for you.

DUKE

Male | ~3 Years Old | 58 Pounds | Medium Energy | Coexists well with other dogs | No cats, please! | Did well meeting dog-savvy kids | From Mexico | Living in Erin, Ontario | Affectionate and loves to be with his people

Everyone, meet DUKE. DUKE, meet everyone. At just about 3 years old, DUKE is an affectionate mixed-breed pooch who loves to love his people. You guessed it - he’s up for the task of being an excellent companion if you’re up to the task of learning all there is to learn about him. This includes learning how he communicates with his body language and is something his current trainer would be happy to help coach you on!

In a way, DUKE is a simple scruff. He loves playing with his ball and participating in a round of fetch. He also likes to sleep and eat. Lol. In other ways, he’s more complex and would do well in a home that is looking forward to implementing instruction from his trainers.

As DUKE is currently being fostered by his trainer, he gets to spend afternoons hiking with a pack of dogs. It’s pretty fun for him! With a medium energy level, DUKE requires an hour of exercise a day, think: a nice long walk and time to play outside. It doesn’t have to be a hike!

In this environment, DUKE has been able to progress with his interactions among other dogs. Of course, his new fam will need to continue advocating for him on a daily basis! As we mention the importance of advocating for him, we should also say that DUKE has a high prey drive and will do best, and needs to go to a home with no cats. Can he live with children though? He sure can! Supervision is, of course, necessary but provided he trusts his leader(s), he will do well interacting with respectful kiddos. DUKE could also live with a 9-5er provided he gets a bathroom break midday. Something to consider!

Otherwise, we can share that time to practice the command place and even having some crate time is important to ensure he’s comfortable in his own space. That said, when inside the home he does like to hang out with his people - so leave time for both!

Anyway, we can’t wait for you to meet him. DUKE is available for informal meetups with his trainer at Paws and Sniff. If you’re interested but not quite ready to put in the application, send us an email stating you’d like to set up a meet and greet and give us some insights into why you’re thinking you’re a good fit for him! Please email adoption@saveourscruff.org to set this up. Please note, DUKE’s current location is Erin, Ontario.

Apply to adopt DUKE today!

This dog is sponsored by PetSmart! This means their adoption process includes a visit to PetSmart’s Mississauga Lakeshore location to finalize the adoption. MAPLE

Female | 2 years old | 35lbs | Medium Energy | Can be shy with other dogs | Dog-savvy cats may work | Best in an adult-only home or with older, dog-savvy kids | From Mexico | Fostered in Toronto | Curious & sweet

With a name like MAPLE, she was meant to find her home in Canada—and just like the syrup, she’s as sweet as can be! Initially shy, she has blossomed into a curious and observant pup whose adventurous nature makes every walk exciting.

She’s still adjusting to city life and thrives with patience, positive exposure, and a structured routine. For example, two hours of walking a day is currently setting her up for success! Crate-trained and doing well in an apartment setting, MAPLE takes time to warm up to new people and can be a bit suspicious at first. Slow introductions and clear boundaries help her feel safe, and once she trusts you, she’s incredibly loyal and affectionate.

MAPLE has shown some controlling tendencies, staying very aware of movement around her space. However, with structure and training, she’s learning that she doesn’t need to be in charge. She would do best with an experienced adopter who can recognize her cues or someone committed to working with a trainer.

While selective with other animals, MAPLE may do well with a confident, dog-savvy cat or a well-matched canine companion. She hasn’t met children, but she’d be best suited to an adult-only home or one with older, respectful kids who understand her boundaries.

Her big, soulful eyes will melt your heart. With continued guidance and a loving, structured home, MAPLE will thrive. Ready for some sweet adventures? Apply to adopt MAPLE today!
