Support Furever Fosters
What is a furEver foster?
Save Our Scruff’s Furever Foster program allows dogs to remain permanently in foster care until end of life, as their circumstances may be better with Save Our Scruff by their side indefinitely. That could be due to quality of life at intake, or other needs that arise that could affect their ability to be adopted. In these cases, it is our organization's ethical desire to support care in a different way than adoption.
Eligible dogs are considered on a case-by-case basis and can be determined Furever Foster candidates prior to entering SOS care, or once already in SOS care.
Situations will vary from dog to dog, but a few examples of Furever Foster factors include:
• Dogs with shorter lifespans or advanced age
• Complex medical needs
• Behavioural challenges
• Palliative care
• Terminal illness
• Pain/discomfort existing in daily life
This also means SOS will be covering some of the costs for Furever Fosters, which will vary from dog to dog. Depending on the dog’s individual needs, some of the covered costs could include:
• Routine vetting and/or medical expenses
• Particular vetting associated with non-routine vetting
• Training costs
• Supplies needed to care for that particular dog
The previous dogs on our furever foster roster have now sadly passed away, we appreciate all of the donations over the past few years. You can still donate in their memory and to support our future furever fosters.
IN MEMORY OF OUR PREVIOUS FUREVER FOSTERS
Evee
Evee came to us last year with a bright future ahead. We hoped she would soon find her forever home, but during a routine vet appointment, we received the devastating news that she had cancer.
Her foster family made the incredibly selfless decision to care for her through whatever time she had left, not knowing exactly what the journey would look like but committed to giving her love every step of the way. Evee passed away just a few days shy of her one-year anniversary with them. Her little body could no longer fight, and she was laid to rest with her foster family by her side.
Rest easy, sweet Evee. You were so loved. 💛
MATEO
Mateo joined us in 2021 and spent his golden years in loving furever foster care. At 17 years old, he peacefully crossed the rainbow bridge, and our hearts are heavy with his loss.
A heartfelt thank you to his incredible fosters, Alexandra and Geordie, for welcoming him into their family with open arms. We’re also deeply grateful for the support of our dedicated volunteers and the wonderful community who stood by him throughout his time with us.
You’ll be missed, Mateo. 🤍
TILDA
At 11 years old, Tilda passed away living the farm life, the one all of our supporters made possible for her as a forever foster.
To be real, Tilda could be a bit of a crabby girl, but if you were in her circle, she loved you deeply.
She became a forever foster with SOS in 2022, which meant we committed to her care for the rest of her life. That journey came to an end this past weekend.
Tilda had a long history with SOS, joining us in 2015. She was adopted and later returned, and after years of searching for her perfect home, we realized she had already found it at her boarding facility with Paws Above. She spent her days surrounded by dogs, goats, chickens, and the dedicated staff who made her feel safe, understood, and finally .. unconditionally loved.
Always in our hearts 💞
