Here comes a senior dog, sloooowly & weakly padding along… *record scratch* PSYCH not this senior. Nope, this senior is charging over here full-speed ahead (and watch out for that tail!) Meet KARMA! She’s 12 years old but jam-packed full of energy. This sweet brindle came to us from a shelter in Hamilton and has been settling in and growing her confidence in foster care. 

KARMA loves any & all activities. Walking, hiking, playing, training, enrichment activities…sign her up. She’s looking for an active family that loves going for adventures but also loves chilling. When KARMA gets adequate activity, she is happy to relax for a movie night with her peeps. With her trusted humans, KARMA is very affectionate and has a heart as big as her 14-inch ear span. Meeting new people she can be apprehensive — but with slow & calm intros she warms up quickly. 

As much as she loves going for walks, KARMA can be vocal on leash and her future home will want to continue working through this with her. She may have a harder time in a building where her chances of running into other dogs in hallways/elevators is higher — due to being vocal passing them. Depends on how she responds to ongoing support from her caregiver. We haven’t cat tested her yet. We think she’d thrive best in a home where she’s the only animal. This is how she’s been living in foster care and it seems to work for her.

KARMA does well with older, dog-savvy kids and would be happy in a home with more humans to give her attention and activity. She’s looking for a family that can devote time & attention to giving her mental stimulation and ALL the love & affection.

Who sets the vibes in your circle? We all know the role of the personality hire, but we want to tell you about personality pup and scruff adoptee, FLYNN.

This scruff brings added value to the table with his happy-go-lucky personality and love for love. Now, sure, FLYNN has got the vibes down, but that’s not to say he doesn’t also have a great set of skills. Crating and basic commands are both training levels FLYNN has progressed through in foster care. One can, however, find FLYNN leaning into a more playful approach with his manners. For instance? He’s a countersurfing king. His attendance and punctuality when food is on the line is next to none! Patience is a virtue that this playful pup is slowly but surely getting the hang of. Flynn is great with guidance and skills can will continue to progress with practice. He’s also getting the hang of having structured down time throughout the day.

FLYNN is the most excellent combo of respectful and wiggly when it comes to playing with his foster scruff sister. Slay. He’s also been babysat with 2 dogs and did well. If you have a playful dog he enjoys a romp, but also is good to respect different dogs energies. This babysitter also had 2 kids (6 yrs & 8 yrs) and he did well with them! His foster has a cat and he does well with supervision.

Flynn can be a bit apprehensive and on the submissive side and is looking for someone that can build his confidence as he’s otherwise a really well balanced pup. He gives us gentle giant energy, although is only 40lbs currently.

Is that a status-symbol bottled water? A tropical vacation destination? Guess again… Meet FIJI! She’s a beagle mix with a disposition that’s just as sunny as the place she’s named after. Maybe even sunnier? Her foster compares her to Happy, the most positive & friendly of all the seven dwarfs in Snow White’s posse. Fiji has been excellent meeting all new human friends.

FIJI loves nothing more than to cuddle and cozy up in a dog bed. After some skill practicing and walks, she’s happy to nap in a dog bed while you go about your chores. She has a bed in the kitchen at her fosters and likes to survey the home activities from her comfort spot. She’s also good hanging out in a yard while her foster does yard work.

With other dogs, FIJI is the sweet & goofy BFF who doesn’t always take a hint to respect personal space. She’s been coexisting well with another dog (as well as meeting dogs in her neighbourhood) and loves following his good behaviour. We think she’d do great as a second dog to a patient dog who won’t mind her goofy antics, though could also be just fine as a solo dog. As for cats, FIJI has limited exposure meeting cats at a pet store and was curious. She’d need guidance/support settling into a home with them. She has met kids on a walk, and would be fine with dog-savvy kids.

She is however still getting used to her crate, which has meant some whining and pacing as she settles.

FIJI is all about using her nose for enrichment. The pros: give her a sniffy puzzle to figure out and she’ll keep herself busy. Cons: she loves to sniff on her leash. She’s been working on her leash walking and has already shown great progress, but y’know, sometimes the sniffs just hit. She’s small and easy to direct.
