Available Dogs

PUPPIES

We're looking for FOSTER TO ADOPT homes - specifically for puppies/younger dogs.

You'll be fostering with the intent to adopt so the dog will go right into your care and you can take a couple of weeks to get to know each other and see if it's the right fit. If it is, that's awesome and if not, you would continue to foster and we'll post the dog as available for adoption.

Pretty sweet right?

What we're looking for from you:

-you're ready to welcome a dog into your home in the very near future. Within the month or next! -you're in the GTA or willing to travel so the dog can attend their initial vetting appointment which is covered by SOS

-you have some flexibility in your schedule for a younger dog -you want to work with us as much as we want to work with you, even if that takes a bit of time! If we don't have your ideal match available right away we can definitely try to find a dog who suits your needs

Interested? Fill out a general adoption application online and specify that it's for foster to adopt. Tell us a little more about what your ideal dog would be like and a member of our team will contact you to get the conversation going

Can’t wait!

MIMI

F | 1 Y | Whippet Mix | 20lbs | Medium energy | Social butterfly | Some exposure to children and dogs | Not cat tested

From Costa Rica this girl is totally affectionate. Meet dreamy MIMI! With children MIMI does well letting them pet her as she sits. She’ll definitely accept a few treats as well! When it comes to meeting dogs once she warms up she has fun having met a few friends outside already. Being shy she appreciates being allowed to approach first in particular with larger dogs. Continuing to provide opportunities for MIMI to make new furry friends will work wonders and you’ll find she’s quite the social butterfly once she comes out of her shell! When it’s time to chillax, this girl likes to cuddle and does well in her crate enjoying playing with her toys. She has experience being on her own for up to 8 hours. HARLEY

HARLEY

M | 3 Y | Cocker Spaniel | 30lbs | Medium energy | Cool dude | Needs proper intros | Some exposure to dogs | No exposure to children | Not cat tested

Even cooler and more stylish than the motorcycle we’d like to introduce you to HARLEY! Currently residing in Burlington this cool dude is pretty chill and enjoys meeting new people. Correction: loves meeting new people! You’ll totally win him over with a pat and a belly rub, which you’ll know because his tail won’t stop wagging! He’s quite the happy-go-lucky guy. HARLEY hasn’t met any cats just yet and would benefit from having even more positive interactions when meeting other chill dog buddies. He’s currently met a few while on his leash and tends to test out his grumbling in such situations. Introducing calming exercises into HARLEY’s daily routine may help with this as well as his occasional chatting when it comes to hearing noses around the house such as the washing machine. While inside he likes to enjoy a good nap after he’s had time to play. He’s always down for a round of tug of war! When it comes to going for walks he enjoys getting out for a few good tours during the day. Currently doing well with his fosters in a house he’d likely thrive in most environments. HARLEY is well crate trained and would likely do well if you have a 9-5 schedule as long as he gets to go for a walk before and after work. He’s house broken and knows basic commands. He’s now learning to remain off the furniture and is mastering “sit”! Such a smarty-pants. Ready to adopt cool dude HARLEY? Gnarly! Apply to meet this dude today.

ELLIE

ELLIE

F | 1.5 Y | Boxer Mix | High energy | Good second dog | Good exposure to dogs | Some exposure to cats | No exposure to children

Meet ELLIE! She’s one rambunctious and independent gal who’ll steal your heart in no time! From the Cayman Islands she currently hangs out in Guelph with her foster fam. She’s had a good amount of exposure to other dogs doing well during such meetings. She’s quite the energetic gal though has a more chill side as well. She hasn’t met children though loves her adult human friends and won’t say no to a belly rub. She typically needs some extra time to warm up to males appreciating being the first to approach preferring having her chin scratched to a pat on the head. ELLIE gets excited with small animals. Calming exercises will help reduce her rumblings. She’s met one cat and doing well she was very curious about this creature though these interactions would be best monitored! ELLIE does well in her foster’s apartment with a backyard. If her furever home were to have a yard ideally it would be fenced as she’s quite the bundle of energy and likes to explore. A typical day for this girl involves a few longer walks as well as some playtime in the yard or park. Having a high energy level, she benefits from lots of outdoor time and will totally join you in a game of fetch! She’d do well as a second dog or having playdates with other pooches likely enjoying the opportunity to socialize more during the day. When she’s not out and about you can totally catch her playing with her toys … she loves tug of war and chewing on her bone! ELLIE is well crate trained using that space as a spot to chill and has experience being on her own for up to 6 hours. She’s house broken, currently working on leash training, and becoming more confident with loud noises. Ready to meet this pure bundle of joy? Apply to adopt ELLIE today!

FINN

FINN

M | 5 Y | Doberman Mix | 58 lbs | Medium energy | Chill dude | Some exposure to dogs | No exposure to children or cats

Filled with energy and charm FINN is sure to make you grin! From Florida, this chill dude totally thinks he’s a lapdog. He’s totally not! Having a medium energy level he likes to go for a few long walks to burn off his energy working on those sick leash skills. The snow can be a bit chilly on his paws though…maybe booties are in his future! A yard isn’t required with FINN currently living in an apartment. That said, he’d likely thrive with more space as he likes to roam around and get a good amount of exercise throughout the day. When he’s not out walking in the ‘hood FINN likes to play fetch and tug of war. He does well in his crate but doesn’t totally love it. He may chit chat though quickly quiets down enjoying some naptime. He’s had experience being on his own for up to two hours, is house broken, and knows basic commands. FINN hasn’t had any exposure to children just yet though has met some dog buds while outside. As he gets quite excited he’s been working with his foster on his responses to larger dogs, currently making a bit of a rumble! Continuing to provide opportunities to interact with other dogs and introducing redirection where necessary will work wonders! FINN likes his treats, which may help with other aspects of training! He’s pretty chill when it comes to cats (when peering through the door!) though hasn’t had a full-on interaction just yet. Loves people. ‘Nuff said! Ready to spend your days chillaxing and laughing? Apply to adopt FINN today!

FLASH

FLASH

M | 1 Y | 39lbs | Shepherd Mix | Medium energy | Cuddle bug | Some exposure to dogs | No exposure to children | Not cat tested

Meet cutie pie FLASH! From the Cayman Islands, FLASH is such an affectionate cuddle bug! Currently living with his foster fam in an apartment, we think he’d ultimately thrive in a home with space to run around.  Though a yard isn't required, time outdoors and a several long walks each day keep Flash at his happiest.  Indoor entertainment with toys, puzzles, and training also keep this dude thriving, and after mental and physical stimulation he'll settle right down to nap.  FLASH does well with a good, consistent routine so set those google cal alerts for training time (followed by cuddles, obvs.)  He's momentarily chatty in his crate, but FLASH does settle down and crating when left alone has meant that housebreaking is 10/10 successful.  FLASH has mastered basic commands, which include "SIT, DOWN & STAY"-  he’s a pretty smart dude and enjoys a good game of hide and seek with his humans. FLASH hasn’t met any children or cats to date, but has met other dogs while outside.  He’s excitable in such situations (just as he is when meeting adult humans) and when it comes to meeting small animals FLASH would totally catch up to them … in a FLASH! Hehe, get it? In all seriousness though introducing calming exercises and reinforcing sitting and staying commands will totally help him work on his responses in such excitable moments. He’s not a fan of squeaky toys and avoids showers while the water is running, so proper introductions to new sounds and sights will help this quirky guy blossom.  When it comes to stairs he does well though tends to avoid those that are particularly steep and scary! Interested in meeting FLASH? You’d better dash! Apply to adopt today!

NUVIA

NUVIA

F | 2 Y | Labrador Mix | Medium-low energy | Sweetie pie | Needs proper intros | Good exposure to dogs | Some exposure to children and cats

Her name meaning friend she’ll soon become yours in her new furever home! Meet NUVIA! From Mexico, this girl is the sweetest (and chillest) dog out there! Highly adaptable she currently does well living in an apartment having been on her own for up to 8 hours. Even the neighbours will love her as she’s definitely not the chatty Cathy type. Though NUVIA would prefer not to be away from you all day she does well on her own and likes using her crate. If you’re thinking about bringing her with you, for instance to your fav coffee shop or in to the office, she’ll be happy to go with simply needing some initial help through the door! While a yard isn’t required she’d likely enjoy having some space to run around. NUVIA’s favourite times of day include playtime, walk time, and naptime. We totally agree. Having a relatively low energy level she enjoys going for walks and then having a nice cuddle with her humans. NUVIA has had a good amount of exposure to dogs both inside and outside preferring to interact with larger dogs that are chill. She’s done well around cats and when catching a visual of a bird or squirrel she gets excited, however is easily redirected by her humans. NUVIA is house broken, walks well on her leash, and knows basic commands. She’s not treat motivated and will need continued support when meeting new human friends as she tends to be timid. Letting her approach first and in her own time works best! Ready to meet your new friend? Apply to adopt NUVIA today!

VANILLA

VANILLA

(NILLY) | F | 1 Y | Shepherd Mix | Medium energy | Sweetie pie | Good exposure to dogs | No exposure to children | Not cat tested

Intensely sweet, creamy, and ever so slightly caramellic, VANILLA is sure to make your day that much sweeter! From Costa Rica this is one laid back, hippy-happy kinda gal who’ll enjoy napping by your side. She’ll spend her time being your own personal shadow and will have fun playing and running outside. Though not required, VANILLA would likely do best in a furever home with a yard as she likes to be let out often, thoroughly enjoying the outdoors. While at home you can expect her to be pretty low-key taking a few naps here and there! She hasn’t yet spent time with kids though she’d likely do well given how affectionate and loving she is, continuously having positive interactions with adults. She hasn’t been exposed to cats though she’s met dogs while outside being comfortable in each situation. She absolutely LOVES the dog park and is very playful aiming to make buds with everyone. Her dog bestie would likely be similar to her in personality, being playful and having a medium energy level to have fun with. When it comes to encountering racoons, VANILLA wasn’t exactly pleased and though she keeps her distance, introducing calming exercises will help when she wants to test out those sweet vocal chords. These exercises will also help with crate training if her furever home decides to use one! VANILLA is well potty trained having experience being on her own for up to 6 hours. Being a big walk enthusiast her furever family can expect to continue working with her on leash training and learning how to shake her paw so she can properly introduce herself to everyone she meets while out and about! KENNA

KENNA

F | 8 M | Hound Mix | 37 lbs | Medium-high energy | Some exposure to dogs | No exposure to children | Not cat tested

Meet KENNA! A true sweetheart and quite the comedian she’ll make you laugh and keep you on your toes! From Mexico she’s currently hanging out in Mississauga with her foster fam and another senior dog . She’s not yet interacted with children or cats though she’s encountered other dogs while on her leash. Doing fairly well, she gets somewhat distracted seeing other pooches from a distance and when meeting bigger dogs tends to give a bit of a rumble. Continuing to expose her to new furry friends will help increase her confidence. She’s definitely interested in squirrels and rabbits tending to give chase on sight. Having a medium-high energy level KENNA is both rambunctious and adventurous! Though not required, if her furever home were to have a yard KENNA would have lots of fun exploring on her own appreciating being let out a few extra times during the day. She’s totally into tag and fetch and LIVES for all the petting she can get. She needs to go for a few walks daily where she’s learning leash etiquette and during down time enjoys playing with her chew toys and kong. KENNA is almost house broken and crate trained having experience being on her own for up to 6 hours doing well. She’s currently working on basic commands such as lying down and shaking her paw and is working on reducing her chewing to her chew toys! Though very curious, new environments tend to make KENNA somewhat anxious, being startled by loud noises such as trucks. Introducing calming exercises will help. Overall KENNA seems to prefer adult human interactions appreciating being the first to approach gaining her confidence and can totally be won over with a few treats. This girl would likely benefit from even more opportunities to socialize as she loves being around her chosen humans! Ready for some KENNA in your life? Apply to adopt today!

COFFEE

COFFEE

F | 4 Y | Hound Mix | 40 lbs | Medium-high energy | Playful pal | Some exposure to dogs | No exposure to children | Not cat tested

But first, COFFEE! We know you may need a bit of encouragement to roll out of bed on Monday mornings and COFFEE is the perfect solution! From Mexico, COFFEE is a clever bean and is quite playful enjoying spending time outside and getting belly rubs from her humans. Though she hasn’t had exposure to children or cats just yet she’s done well hanging out with other dogs while on her leash, being calm in these situations. Occasionally she’ll pull either to get closer or further from the furry friend and with more interactions with dogs her confidence and patience will increase. Meeting humans of the adult variety she’s also been very calm enjoying a nice head pat and would likely respond similarly with children. She currently enjoys spending time in her foster fam’s condo. As she’s not overly active while inside, preferring to lounge around, this would likely be a good long-term space for her. When it comes to spending time outside she has a medium-high energy level loving to sniff all the things and rolling around in the snow. She hasn’t tested out playing fetch just yet though she does need about two hours of walking and exploration a day and does well on her leash during such outings. Her furever fam can expect to continue working with COFFEE on calming exercises and boundaries. This will help with her crate training (she’s a bit of an escape artist!) and her tendency to chit-chat when left alone. The same will help if her new fam expects to take her for car rides as this tends to make her nervous. As COFFEE is very playful she does well with a flexible schedule though has been on her own for up to 6 hours. Ready to meet this COFFEE bean? Enjoy a cuppa joe and adopt COFFEE today!

LADY

LADY

F | 1 Y | Ibizan Hound Mix | Medium energy | 40lbs | Sweet little lady | Needs proper introductions | Good exposure to dogs | No exposure to children | Not cat tested | Grade 4 hip dysplasia (left hip)

From the Dominican this LADY is definitely getting used to life in Canada, though it can be a little chilly with all this snow! We know she’s gonna love you because when it comes to human pals, LADY gets along with them very well. She even knows how to shake her paw! LADY becomes more comfortable when meeting new dog friends given some time. Continuing to expose her to these situations would likely result in her enjoying playing with them even more. She hasn’t interacted with any cats yet, but maybe with you she will! LADY is very accommodating and would adapt to most living spaces well, doing best in a calmer environment. She’s currently happy living in a house with a backyard, which she likes to hang out in when it’s not too cold. That said, she’d likely be comfortable in a condo as well, as she is quiet, with no barking. She spends most of her day with her foster fam and has done well on her own for 4-6 hours. Her ideal day looks like going for a walk, having a good nap, watching squirrels in the yard, followed by a game of tug of war…and a few pats from her fam, of course! She knows basic commands, is house trained, and has been walking better recently, with less pulling on her leash. LADY also does well in her crate, which she can continue to use in her new home as a way to help establish boundaries. Her furever home can expect to continue working with her on her confidence when it comes to meeting new buds (of the dog variety) and when reacting to larger vehicles like busses. This can be done by letting her approach first and introducing calming exercises, respectively. LADY will need some attention to her hip … mostly to keep her hip and happening!! Though not super active, having a medium energy level, LADY will 100% race to the door when you bring her into her new furever home! Apply to adopt this sweet little LADY today!

CAMEMBERT

CAMEMBERT

(CAMMY) F | 8 M | Hound Mix | Medium energy | Totally cheesy | Needs proper intros | Good exposure to dogs | Some exposure to children and cats

Serious question, who doesn’t like soft, creamy, ooey gooey cheese?! We’d like to formally introduce you to our gal CAMEMBERT! Just like the famous French cheese, she’ll totally melt your heart. Too cheesy? Nah!! Thoroughly food motivated, she likes a good treat every now and then. CAMEMBERT is a shy and affectionate pooch who will enjoy following you around, making you her new bestie! She’s met humans of the adult variety as well as children doing better with older kids. Though preferring to spend time with her humans, CAMEMBERT has met and played with dogs of all sizes testing out her singing abilities. When it comes to cats she tends to mind her own business. Originally from Mexico, with her current foster fam she lives in a home with a backyard. A yard isn’t required for this gal but she does appreciate going out and about fairly often. She has been on her own for 4-6 hours though she prefers the company of her humans and would need some time to adjust to a new schedule. She can be anxious when not around her peeps and we think a furever fam with a flexible schedule would work well for her. CAMEMBERT totally loves to play in the snow and though she has a medium energy level doesn’t want to spend all day running around. Her ideal day involves chewing on her bone, making snow angels, and then wrapping it all up snuggling with you! CAMEMBERT does well on her leash as she knows basic commands, is crate trained, and potty trained. Her furever home can expect to continue working with her on becoming more confident when loud noises arise such as car traffic. Introducing calming exercises into her daily routine will help with this. Though she’ll be entirely affectionate with you, she requires support when meeting new people as this tends to make her nervous. Getting to her level and allowing her to approach first works wonders in this type of situation. Also, treats will totally get you a long way! Ready to meet this total cheese ball? Apply to adopt CAMEMBERT today!

RASCAL

RASCAL

M | 3 Y | Hound mix | 40 lbs | Medium energy | Curious | Building confidence | Needs proper intros | Receptive to direction/leadership | Good second dog | No exposure to cats or kids

Meet RASCAL! He was pretty shy when he first arrived in our care but he’s come a long way already and seeing him do things like seek affection from his fosters or get super excited about his toys gives us all the feels. He even enjoys getting all kinds of love and hugs at times. That said, he will still need some support in his furever home as he continues to build his confidence. It’s important to not baby him and continue to expose him to new things. RASCAL prefers to make the first move with human and dog friends but has improved big time meeting human buds without shying away. Not making a fuss about him and allowing him to check you out when he’s ready is the best approach and helps him feel brave! RASCAL is somewhat fearful meeting new dogs so introducing calming techniques in these situations could be one way to work on this with him, which will help him become more confident. RASCAL is medium energy but could probably adjust to an even more active lifestyle if that’s what his people were into. RASCAL is house trained, letting you know when he wants to go out and has been working on the basics including commands and responds well to direction and leadership. One command he nails every time is no and he’s very respectful if you indicate that something is off limits. He LOVES stuffed toys and playing tug. He sleeps on a blanket in the living room at night, and during the day is used to a more flexible schedule with his foster where he’s rarely left alone. He will definitely need time to adjust to a new schedule. RASCAL is comfortable with the other dog in the home and would do well with a second chill dog. If you’d like to meet him fill out an application to adopt today!

HENRICK

HENRICK

M | 4 Y | Hound mix | 45 lbs | Medium energy | Smart and playful | Affectionate | Knows basic commands | Food Motivated | Not kid tested | Chases cats on street/limited exposure

HENRICK… doesn't that name just sound so distinguished? And honestly this dog is like beyond handsome so his name really suits him. HENRICK is a pretty chill dude but definitely prefers his humans, so he's looking for an experienced owner who is able to help him get comfortable interacting with other dogs and with new environments. HENRICK is very affectionate and if it was up to him your full-time job would be petting or hugging him. Unfortunately, you probably have a job that actually like pays bills so although he doesn't love being alone he appreciates that you need to work. If you do happen to have a flexible schedule that would be ideal. He’s extra hungry for attention first thing in the morning and when you come home from work but is otherwise pretty chill in the home and happy to watch you do things like cook dinner and fold laundry. Who even needs Netflix, your life is so exciting! He’s crated at night but usually spends the work day in one area of the house that’s blocked off. He enjoys having a backyard to explore. He gets super excited to go for walks and tends to pull especially during the first few minutes. He is currently being trained to be a better walking buddy. He is accustomed to three walks per day, morning, early afternoon and evening. He knows he’s not allowed on the furniture but will occasionally crawl up there just to make sure that it’s a real rule. It is. He has been friendly with meeting new people so far but will need time (and respect/patience from others) to have some space to find his confidence with new people and in new spaces. His interactions with other dogs have been limited so far so he would benefit from ongoing socialization. He has seen some cats while on walks, he treats them like he does squirrels, he tries to run right at them. We aren't sure how he'd do in a home environment with them! If you’d like to meet HENRICK fill out an application to adopt now!

SAMMY

SAMMY

l M | 1 Y | Collie mix | 30 lbs | Medium energy | Shy | Learning the basics | Very affectionate | Likes quieter areas | Apprehensive of dogs/people – needs proper intros | Not cat tested | Likely ok with older kids

SAMMY is a truly lovable pooch, with plenty of affection to give! He is a sweet and playful pup in the home, but has a long way to go with his nervousness out in the world. He is very agitated around dogs and new people, but his fosters are confident that with the right leadership, patience, and exposure, he will gain confidence and maturity to handle himself in new situations. We've started socialization training while in foster care and Sammy has benefited immensely from it. His intelligence and positive response to correction have helped him come a long way and he rarely barks or pulls anymore. He’s pretty much mastered basic commands (as well as some pretty cute tricks) and is learning to follow instructions and improving daily. Continued training and dedication in his new home will make a huge difference for his development.

Because SAMMY can still be reactive when stressed in new environments, his new family will have to be prepared for an adjustment period while he gets his bearings. It is important to be respectful of his space and boundaries and built his trust slowly. He is very affectionate with his people once he builds trust and is a total goofball at the home. Reminder though that affection (when socially motivated) should be given as praise to an insecure dog, rather than 'whenever we feel like it' so that they can better understand who is the alpha in the home. He requires an experienced owner who will help him build trust with humans and continue his socialization. An advocate, really. To be fair, all of our dogs need one of those ;)

A quieter suburban home away from the noise and bustle of the city is the best fit for SAMMY in order to continue to build his confidence. He is definitely not a social butterfly and is not a good fit for a home with lots of people coming & going, or young children. This dude likes a slow pace of everything. Keeping it easy, not too forward. Can you be the advocate that he needs? We know there's a playful dude in there trying to build the confidence to come out, he just needs a strong and consistent leader. If you’d like to be SAMMY's life-long advocate, fill out an application to adopt today!

SNOOPY

SNOOPY

| F | 2 Y | Egyptian Baladi | 40 lbs | Medium energy | Shy/Nervous | Not a city girl | Crate trained | Needs proper intros w/ dogs | No cats/young kids l

Meet SNOOPY! SNOOPY is looking for an experienced home outside of the city who can continue to help her learn how to dog.

SNOOPY is quite apprehensive about new experiences, so she needs a calm, confident, patient leader who can help her build trust, and in turn, help her adapt to the world around her.

SNOOPY is definitely interested in dogs, but can easily become overwhelmed, so if being added as a second dog, she would do best with a calm, well socialized dog. Pushy, hyper or reactive dogs are too much for SNOOPY to handle, so her ideal home would be with people and animals who like to keep things mellow. She can be a flight risk, so it’s important that she stays on leash, or in a fully secured backyard.

SNOOPY definitely has a lot of potential, and could be a great dog for someone who understands and appreciates the benefit of investing time and energy into helping her come out of her shell. She can be quite affectionate with her people, and likes her people to pet her once she’s had time to warm up, which is awesome because she’s SOOOOO SOFT! She is, however, occasionally sensitive to touch so her people need to understand how to read her signals.

SNOOPY is heavily dependent on her crate as a safe space and will retreat there if she feels uncomfortable. She needs a quiet home with a backyard so that she can explore and get her outdoor time. She would NOT do well a home with lots of people coming and going. When meeting new people she should be allowed to start in her crate, check them out from a distance and have time to build up her comfort level. She will come out when she’s ready! SNOOPY’s owner needs to ensure she’s given space with new people, as people approaching her too quickly intimates her and can cause her to react out of fear.

SNOOPY has not been tested with cats but lives with one very dog savvy 10 year old. As long as older kids can fully respect her boundaries she may be ok but they need to have an understanding of what it means to live with a nervous pup. SNOOPY is well behaved in the home. With calm, patient people she will continue to grow and we can’t wait to see the pooch she becomes. If you’d like to meet her fill out an application to adopt now!

A foster is also needed for SNOOPY, if you are interested, please email: foster@saveourscruff.org
