One look at her sweet eyes and you’ll fall in love with HOPE! Coming from the Dominican Republic she’s still learning to love the city. She’s shy/nervous and will need her humans so continue to gently push her to come out of her shell. She will try to spend as much time alone as she can but it’s important for her people to engage with her in positive ways to help build her confidence. Currently her favourite activity is hiding but let’s change that! If she asks you to play hide and seek just say no. Hand feeding is a great option to help her build that bond with you because let’s face it, if someone gives you food you’ll probably love them forever. It’s important that new experiences are introduced gradually. Be your dog’s advocate and explain the need for space with a nervous pup like HOPE. Allow her to initiate any interactions when she’s ready. As long as she’s in the general vicinity of new people (like hanging out a few feet away) and she doesn’t have a bad experience she’ll start to realize that people are cool. She’s medium energy and is used to three walks a day currently – morning, evening and just before bed. She’s super laidback in the home and is totally cool in an apartment environment so far, being mindful that she’ll encounter a lot of people/dogs in an apartment building and you will need to remind people that she’s shy. She’s nervous around other dogs and becomes uncomfortable when they are too excited or sniff her for too long, but she has never shown any aggression. She did live with multiple dogs in the DR but they were super chill for the most part. Another calm dog would be a good fit for her. She hasn’t been tested with cats or kids but would probs be uncomfortable with tiny humans running around. She likes treats and has been responding well to training so far so we think she has tons of potential! If you’d like to meet HOPE fill out an application to adopt now!
