Meet CHOPS! He’s really a goofy, gentle giant at heart but is still getting settled here so is very shy/nervous in new situations. We’re looking for a confident but patient owner who will set positive boundaries for him and be a leader, while working to slowly and gently build that bond with him. He’s more nervous of men (especially with those things called beards!) than women but his socialization skills with humans have been improving as his confidence grows. In new situations he needs time to decompress so it’s best to stand there confidently and allow him to take it all in. Babying him or being overly reassuring will actually be a setback as it teaches him that being fearful is ok. Your calm presence is all the reassurance he needs! He does better meeting new people outside the home first so going on a quick walk is a great first intro. His forever home needs to continue with training. He has such a great personality but needs to work on the basics and gets distracted easily… squirrel… leaf… snacks.. what were you saying? He likes enjoying the sunshine in the backyard and is actually pretty good on leash already. He LIVES for his squeaky toys but they don’t last too long because duh, CHOPS. He is very affectionate when he develops trust and will struggle with deciding how to be close to ALL the people if you’re hanging in separate rooms. CHOPS will need more socialization with other dogs. He’s not aggressive but is very fearful so a controlled environment like a training class would help. He’s perfectly fine living with an anti-social cat and has been ok meeting kids on the street as long as the situation is calm and controlled. He’s such a good-natured pup who just needs a bit of support to overcome some fears. If you’d like to meet him fill out an application to adopt now!
