Mr. Lover, Mr. Lover lover…. Meet SHAGGY! Unlike everyone’s favourite reggae fusion singer, it might be a little tougher to win this SHAGGY’s affection and he definitely will not be creepin' with the girl next door. It takes him a bit of time to warm up to people and he can be a little aloof at first but once you break down that wall he is such a kind and gentle dog. We guarantee you’ll cry the first time he rolls over to ask for belly rubs! He’s an older dude and has had a tough life up. He is a tri-pod but he loves going for two 30-minute walks per day and he does have a playful streak. His favourite activity is catching squeaky toys and balls – not fetch but actually catching them – and he’ll bring his toys with you to request a game. His toys are a great stress reliever and comfort to him. Although super good-natured, SHAGGY can be a little grumpy sometimes (think old man yells at cloud) and it’s best to just give him some time to chill. He doesn’t like being surprised, especially with touching, and his natural instinct is to nip. We think he would do best in a home with a decent amount of space where and people are less likely to bump into him unexpectedly. He tolerates being pet by strangers but it’s not his fave and it’s best for people to just ignore him. He’ll assess the situation when he’s ready. He currently lives with another dog (another tri-pawd and yes it’s the cutest thing and yes we’re obsessed) and after a couple days to figure each other out they are totally cool. SHAGGY is good with other dogs but doesn’t really care to engage in too much activity. He is OBSESSED with food and will find a way to get at whatever you have on your counters so everything needs to be put away. He can be a little too excited when taking treats sometimes but he’s working on his patience. Other than that he’s very well behaved indoors. He working on some additional manners as well. He hasn’t been tested with cats and is not good with kids due to nipping. He also is territorial when food is included. Building boundaries in the home as well as doing bonding exercises with food are a MUST (e.g. hand feeding) If you’d like to kick it with SHAGGY fill out an application to adopt now.
