A playful, scruffy little cuddle fanatic – meet GRETEL! She falls in love with her people instantly and looks at you with pure affection and trust. She needs someone who will help her feel the same way about herself as she sometimes forgets how awesome she is. She’s still very nervous about certain things and needs to build her confidence. She definitely looks to her people for direction and is down to try anything once as long as you’re coaching her through it. Currently, GRETEL is wary of some men and will look at them suspiciously as she slowly backs away. She needs proper introductions with new people – like not allowing people to hover over her trying to pet her head and her being allowed to make the first move when she’s ready. She doesn’t like crowds of people and her go-to move is to sit like a statue and hope that her invisible powers work. She’s pretty good on walks but is still hyper-aware of everything around her – ready to protect herself and you from anything that might pop up on a walk. She’s got your back. She does pull on the leash as well as she likes to sniff and explore, so will need help following your lead! Her people should continue to build positive associations with the outside world so that she can relax and enjoy her walks. She HATES her own reflection and will bark and growl at the mirror because who even let that dog in?! She’s pretty high energy and gets bored easily which may result in chewing. She would love a home with a backyard that she can run around in as well as lots of things that she’s actually allowed to chew on. She loves her crate and stays in there while her foster mom is at work. She needs a good walk/play session after snoozing all day but then she’s good to chill on the couch. She does whine if you’re not paying enough attention cause she’s your number one now. GRETEL is good with confident & calm dogs who are her size or bigger but does NOT do well with small dogs. She also can’t go to a home with cats due to a high prey drive. A home with older children only (like teens) would be best as she continues to learn and build her confidence.
